Research Associate, Molecular Biology

Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients.  We use a variety of patented and proprietary technologies for engineering microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.  We are seeking a motivated individual for a research associate position that will specialize in metabolic engineering, enzyme engineering, and molecular biology. This person will be expected to tackle a variety of challenges as an integral part of Manus Bio’s R&D team.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct and validate gene and plasmid constructs
  • Express metabolic pathways in microbial systems
  • Test expression and activity of enzymes in a variety of assays
  • Ferment bacterial cultures
  • Perform analytical assays to identify and quantify metabolites
  • Work as part of a scientific team to implement experimental plans
  • Assist with regular assigned laboratory maintenance duties
  • Communicate results of experiments with colleagues

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or similar discipline with two years or more academic/industrial research experience.
  • Hands-on experience in genetic engineering tools, including plasmid construction.
  • Experience in metabolic pathway design and multi-gene assembly a plus.
