Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients. We use a variety of patented and proprietary technologies to engineer microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. We are seeking a motivated individual for a research scientist position that will specialize in computational enzyme engineering. This candidate should have deep experience in at least one area of computational protein analysis, design, or bioinformatics but have familiarity with a broad array of techniques. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s R&D team.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze gene and protein primary sequence information
  • Generate protein structural models
  • Predict mutations and design libraries to increase enzyme stability, solubility, and activity
  • Work as part of a scientific team to implement experimental plans
  • Communicate results with colleagues

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics, Protein Engineering, Biochemistry, Genetics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Quantitative Biology, Bioengineering, or similar discipline
  • Experience with protein visualization software such as PyMOL
  • Experience with protein sequence alignment software such as MAFFT or MEGA
  • Experience with protein modeling and design software such as Rosetta
  • Fluent in Python, other programming proficiency desirable

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using computational tools to improve enzyme activity and specificity
  • Experience using computational tools to design variant libraries
  • Experience with genomic or transcriptomic analysis
  • Technical experience with machine learning or quantitative modeling of biological systems
