Co-Op, Computational Protein Engineering (2022)

Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients.  We use a variety of patented and proprietary technologies for engineering microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.  We are seeking a motivated individual for a 6 month computational Co-Op position from January to June 2022 to support activities applying statistical and machine learning techniques to protein engineering.  With guided mentorship and training, this person will be expected to take on a scientific project with direct relevance to and impact on Manus Bio’s R&D platform.

General Responsibilities:

  • Curate a large and diverse set of protein X-ray crystal structures and high quality models
  • Perform statistical analysis and machine learning techniques on the collection of protein structures to extract key structural motifs to guide protein engineering
  • Develop new computational tools for protein informatics and protein engineering
  • Communicate results with colleagues

 Required Qualifications:

  • Must be actively pursuing a BS or MS degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Life Sciences or related quantitative discipline
  • Experience in protein informatics, bioinformatics, or protein modeling and structure prediction
  • Experience in applying statistics and/or machine learning to data processing and analysis
  • Proficient in Python and/or R and/or Java

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with design and development of APIs is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with a wide range of biological databases and resources, such as RCSB, UniProt, EMBL-EBI data resources and tools is preferred
