Research Scientist, Computational Enzyme Engineering

Manus Bio is a next-generation industrial biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts that produces plant-based ingredients. We use a variety of patented and proprietary technologies to engineer microbes for the production of specialty chemicals, such as food ingredients, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. We are seeking a motivated individual for a research scientist position that will specialize in machine learning and computational protein design. This candidate should have deep experience in at least one area of protein modeling or design but have familiarity with a broad array of techniques. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s R&D team.

  • Predict mutations and design libraries to increase enzyme stability, solubility, and activity
  • Develop predictive models for enzyme engineering using machine-learning/deep-learning techniques
  • Work as part of a scientific team to implement experimental plans
  • Assist with maintenance of hardware and software to support computational bioengineering
  • Communicate results with colleagues

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biostatistics, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar discipline
  • Experience with one or more of the protein modeling and design software such as Schrodinger, Rosetta, Discovery Studio, MOE, GROMACS, Amber, or NAMD
  • Experience with protein visualization software such as PyMOL
  • Statistics training and experience in data science methods (random forest, support vector machine, clustering, neural networks and deep learning)
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as Oracle/MySQL/PostgreSQL
  • Fluent in programming in a Linux environment using Python, other programming proficiency desirable

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using computational tools to improve enzyme activity and specificity
  • Experience developing prediction models with machine-learning/deep-learning techniques
